Ground control to.. Rockhampton?

A Queensland guy is one step closer to achieving his dream of building Australia's first spaceport launch pad, with the Federal Government reportedly willing to consider his ambitious plan and possibly provide some much needed funding.

John Moody, the man behind Moody Space Centre - a proposal to bring the first launch pad to Australia - is already being backed by a US aero space company Interorbital Systems but now needs some financial backing from Canberra to make his dream a reality.

The centre would reportedly be capable of launching satellites, spacecrafts and sub orbital vehicles, would have a medical research lab and technology centre and even offer 'space tourism'.

Moody pitched his home town of Rockhampton because he believes a location based in Queensland offers "cheaper costs" because of its geographical location.

The Federal Department of Industry, Innovation and Science have been in talks with Moody and anticipate a formal proposal would be lodged soon.
