The Australian Federal Police want to know if you've "misplaced a lazy $1.6 million in cash" after a suitcase containing the enormous sum was discovered in New South Wales.

Officers are calling for public assistance with information around the owner of the suitcase, which is linked to a suspected drug importation.

"We’re looking for the person that left this sum of money behind at a property in Wetherill Park, NSW," an AFP spokesperson wrote on Facebook.

"Our officers were at a warehouse investigating a suspected drug importation when they found this stash of cash.

"We’ve kicked off a court process to have it listed as unclaimed cash – but if you reckon this cash is yours, we’d be very keen to speak with you.

"And by speak with you, we definitely mean to ask where you got a suitcase full of cash from. We have a sneaking suspicion this isn’t your average pay packet."

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this matter to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
