Australia's Dealing With A Garlic Bread Shortage

Garlic bread may be off the menu right now at your local pizzeria. 

Australia's dealing with a shortage of the Italian sidekick as one of the country's major suppliers deals with a contamination issue. 

George Weston Foods, which supplies garlic bread to some of Australia's biggest pizza chains including Domino's and Pizza Hut, suspended production after pieces of Teflon plastic were found in a margarine blender filter last week. 

As a result, the supplier has suspended production and has issued a recall to its food service customers. 

The bread has been removed from all Domino's stores Australia-wide until further notice.

"The integrity, quality and safety of the food products we serve is extremely important to us and, with our suppliers, we have extensive quality control systems in place," the company said in a statement.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience. We will bring our garlic bread back to our menu as soon as possible, but only when our supplier assures us it is appropriate to do so."
