A Sydney man who had his driving licence disqualified until the year 3001 has been caught behind the wheel again.

He faced court yesterday and was sentenced to 100 hours of community service after police alleged that he was driving in Campbelltown in July.

According to the man, his usual driver had already had a few drinks and he needed to go to Bunnings after a pipe he was fixing broke.

The Magistrate described this as 'an unusual case', with the question raised how the licence could be suspended for such a long time.

It is understood that the man's case fell under mandatory disqualification sentencing for a number of drink driving convictions in WA.
