Cassie Sainsbury's six year plea deal has been rejected by a Colombian judge.

The decision was delayed last month after she sensationally claimed the lives of her family and fiance had been threatened in order to force her to smuggle the 5.8 kilograms of cocaine in 18 headphone packets through Bogota Airport in April.

It was rejected by Judge Sergio Leon on the basis that the claim - which the prosecutor's office says is unsubstantiated - invalidates her ability to actually take responsibility for the crime.

She's likely to stand trial and is facing up to 30 years in prison.
