A man has been arrested and an imitation shotgun uncovered during co-ordinated counter-terrorism raids in Melbourne this morning, all linked to this weeks deadly Brighton siege. About 150 state and federal police raided properties in Ascot Vale, Glenroy and Gladstone Park from 5am.

A 32-year-old man was taken into custody and officers interviewed two others, aged 31 and 51.

Police say the raids are related to the investigation into how Melbourne man Yacqub Khayre obtained the weapon he used to kill a hotel clerk and wound three police on Monday night.

"They are not persons of national security interest. They are, however, persons who are known to us through their criminal history," Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Shane Patton told reporters. "I want to make perfectly clear, we haven't yet uncovered anybody with links to terrorism who are associated with the offender from the Brighton attack."
