Sports commentator Bruce McAverney revealed during the week that he has been battling cancer for the last two years.

The broadcasting legend was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia, which is a type of blood cancer.

In his first interview since the announcement, McAvaney said that he is doing well and is optimistic about the future. See the video below.

"I'm going well, and I've really appreciated all the support I've had over the last 24 hours," McAvaney said.

"I made a decision not to do the Australian Open (call) because I was feeling really tired and my immune system isn't what it used to be."
