Carrie Fisher was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after suffering a massive heart attack on a plane.

She is currently in the intensive care ward in the UCLA Medical Centre, according to her brother Todd.

“She is in the intensive care unit, she is being well looked after,” Todd told Entertainment Tonight.

“If everyone could just pray for her that would be good. The doctors are doing their thing and we don’t want to bug them. We are waiting by patiently.

"We certainly do not know her condition, that’s why she is in ICU. I’m sure everyone wants to speculate, but now is not the time for that."

Fisher was on board a flight from London to Los Angeles when she went into cardiac arrest 15 minutes before landing in LA, TMZ has reported.

Passengers attempted to revive her with CPR before she was rushed to the UCLA Medical Center reportedly unconscious and with an oxygen mask on, where she is currently on a ventilator.

The 60-year-old had been promoting her latest book The Princess Diarist.

A law enforcement official told NBC that her condition was "not good".
