As the backlash to the plastic bag ban continues, Coles and Woolworths have today announced further incentives and rewards for shoppers who bring their own bags.

Coles is offering flybuys points to customers who bring their own bags from today until Tuesday July 17.

Customers need only swipe their flybuys card at the checkout for 30 points (available for one transaction per day).

"We're really grateful that our customers are increasingly bringing their own bags when shopping at Coles,” Coles Store Operations Director Paul Bradshaw said.

"Offering flybuys points is a small way of saying thank you to our customers for making the switch to reusable bags."

From Saturday July 15, shoppers who bring their own bag to Woolworths will be able to also earn extra Woolworths Rewards points.

This offer will run until December 31 2018, with two points earned for every shopping bag brought with them in-store - regardless of whether they are Woolworths brand.

“We appreciate forming new habits is an adjustment for some of our customers and our recent complimentary bag offer was aimed at providing a little extra help during the transition," Woolworths Group CEO Brad Banducci said.

"We believe now is the time to encourage and reinforce greener habits and hope this Rewards recognition will act as a further prompt for all customers to bring their own bags when shopping with us.”
