As stories go, this one takes the biscuit.

A London Constable has faced a disciplinary hearing over allegations he took a tin of biscuits belonging to a colleague and lied about it.

He's accused of breaching professional standards by taking the medium-sized two-tier tin of biscuits from a storage cupboard in 2016 and giving a false account.

The Constable told the hearing he was going to share them with everyone and offered to replace them but the representative for Met Police told the hearing it showed a "fundamental lack of integrity".

"It shows clear evidence of misappropriation of property," said Met Police representative Charles Apthorp. "The officer was aware it belonged to someone else and the officer has taken it."

The panel chairman questioned the decision to refer the matter to authorities.

"You have a sergeant and an inspector and a box of biscuits that have gone missing and the only thing you can come up with is to refer the matter to Directorate of Professional Standards?"
