There are reports that Opal, Go and Myki cards could soon become a thing of the past, with public transport tickets to become a bit more high-tech.

According to a report by Nine News, a new system is being trialled in laboratories by Cubic Corporation, with machines using recognition technology to identify its user.

This includes eye and hand scanning technology.

However, this technology is still a while off, so for now it seems we're stuck with our current cards.
