Great news if you suck through your Android data each month without fail – Facebook has quietly launched its Messenger Lite service across the entire country.

While the app itself was created some time ago, it’s now been made available to everyone in Australia currently texting, calling and swiping on an Android phone, Life Hacker reports.

Apple users will have to wait a little while longer with no iOS version available just yet.

As for the app itself, it’s pretty much got all the functions of the Messenger app, just with less bells and whistles - the file size itself is only 10Mb.

You’ll be able to send message, stickers, videos, emoji, pictures and even make voice calls – video calls, and games have made the cut, but the trade-off is you’re probably going to save a massive amount on your phone bill.
