With the same-sex marriage survey closing this afternoon, the Australian Bureau of Statistics has released the latest figures for participation.

As of Friday afternoon, 12.6 million people had casted their vote, with this figure expected to rise slightly once the votes from Friday through to today's deadline are counted.

While posting remains out of the question to lodge your vote, there's still time to drop off your survey by hand at ABS offices in capital cities.

For those based in Melbourne, the ABS office is closed due to the public holiday.

The ABS will release the results on Wednesday, November 15.
