Fire conditions in NSW will be catastrophic tomorrow, with Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fizsimmons calling them “the worst possible conditions”.

"The conditions for Sunday are the worst possible conditions, they are catastrophic — we haven't seen this in NSW to this extent ever," Fitzsimmons told the ABC.

Fitzsimmons referred to Victoria’s Black Saturday fires from 2009 that killed 173 people — Australia’s worst bushfire — and said that "the forecast indices (for Sunday) are greater than those faced by Victoria at the time".

Fitzsimmons told residents to avoid areas of fire danger, stressing that they “cannot guarantee that a fire truck will be at every house”.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned of “extreme to catastrophic” fire conditions due to W/NW winds tomorrow.

They’ve issued the following warnings for tomorrow:

Catastrophic Fire Danger is forecast for the following fire areas: Greater Hunter, Central Ranges and North Western  Extreme Fire Danger is forecast for the following fire areas: North Coast, Northern Slopes, Upper Central West Plains and Lower Central West Plains  Severe Fire Danger is forecast for the following fire areas: Far North Coast, Greater Sydney Region and Far Western
