We now know exactly how Foxtel is cutting back on the number of people illegally streaming Main Event fights and the like on Facebook.

The company reckons fewer than half a dozen people were busted sharing Sunday's Jeff Horn - Manny Pacquiao bout on social, thanks to a smart new initiative.

Each Foxtel subscriber was assigned a unique code which appeared randomly on the screen throughout the event.

It meant any steams that DID make their way onto Facebook were easily and quickly traced back to the original subscriber.

Those caught by the new system received a phone call from Foxtel, telling them to remove the stream immediately.

What makes things difficult for Foxtel is that some of the steams came from the Phillipines where the fight was on free-to-air television.

It's being seen as a huge win for the company, after dozens of streams of the Anthony Mundine vs Danny Green bout. After that, 2 men were forced to apologise after being threatened with fines of up to $60,000 or 5 years jail for illegal streaming.
