Aussies are being told not to travel to North Korea as tensions with the rogue state ramp up.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has updated its travel advice, telling people to reconsider their need to travel there.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has told Parliament if Aussie get into trouble there - they can't help:

“I would urge Australians not to travel to North Korea.

We have no consular presence there, we have little capacity to assist should any Australians get into to trouble.”

The advice for South Korea has also been updated reminding travellers further provocations by the North or reactions by other countries cannot be ruled out. Australians traveling in South Korea are encouraged to monitor the situation closely.
