Hackers Steal Uber User And Driver Data

Uber has confirmed that an amount of $US100,000 was paid to hackers in an effort to conceal a data breach last year.

The breach compromised 57 million accounts, both of drivers and users.

Chief security officer Joe Sullivan and his deputy Craig Clark were fired due to the incident.

The data accessed included names, phone numbers, email addresses and some 600,000 drivers' licences. However, Uber has dismissed claims that credit card data was taken.

Uber will notify those affected by the breach in the coming days, with drivers whose licence numbers were downloaded provided with free credit monitoring and identify theft protection.
