Generation of unhealthy kids

New research shows that parents are increasingly baffled by food labels, with a demonstrated lack of understanding about kids' nutrition requirements.

The Royal Children's Hospital National Child Health Poll has found that processed foods prevail in the 2000 households surveyed, with startling findings emerging.

For example, a quarter of parents believe that fruit drinks are healthier than water, and more than nine out of 10 school-aged kids don't consume the recommended serve of vegetables each day.

Also of concern is the fact that one in eight children are considered overweight by their parents, but in reality one in four children are overweight.

This issue largely stems from misconceptions surrounding packaging, with two-thirds of parents reportedly struggling to identify the amount of sugar added to foods.
