 If you’ve missed a phone call from someone in Slovenia (and you don’t have friends there) you’ve probably been hit by a scam hitting thousands of Australians this week.

According to the ACCC – there’e been over 2000 reports of such scam calls in the past year - so you're not alone.

They say it’s the "wangriri" scam, where a phone number is called and hangs up immediately. If the person returns the call, they are connected to a premium phone service or a scammer trying to get personal information.

The calls can come from a variety of countries including Slovenia, Belgium, the Ascension Islands, Chad, and a number of other countries in West Africa, Buzzfeed reports. 

If you’re hit by an unexpected international phone call, Scamwatch suggest you don’t reply and if they continue to call you, block the number.
