Temperatures are expected to drop spectacularly in the coming days, with a cold front sweeping across the south-east.

It may dip to temperatures which would bring the coldest weather for two years, with torrential rain and heavy snow predicted across Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and NSW this weekend.

There is also a warning for Adelaide, with winds u to 90km/h on the way and temperatures ranging from 8C to 14C.

Temperatures will be at a top of 14C on Sunday in Sydney's west, however it's the bitter wind that will make it feel even cooler.

Meanwhile, in Melbourne temperatures will range from 7C to 13C over the weekend.

It will warm up again next week, with Sunday tipped to be the coldest day for a while.
