From today, flying with a young family is about to get more expensive.

Popular low cost airline Jetstar has introduced a $30 fee each way, to parents who have their kids sitting on their laps during a domestic flight.

And if you're planning on travelling internationally, then you could be charged a fee of up to $50 each way.

Previously, kids under two years old who didn't need a seat, could travel for free on domestic flights and on international trips between Australia and New Zealand.

But it's all good if you've already booked a flight with your baby on Jetstar, pre-existing bookings will not be affected by the new extra charge.
