Justine Damond's Family Still Waiting To Learn If Officer Who Killed Her Will Be Charged

The agonising wait for the family of Australian woman Justine Damond continues to learn if the US Police officer who shot and killed her will be charged.

The officer in charge of investigating the July 15 shooting in Minneapolis, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman, has indicated the process may take up to six months.

“We have received some emails and phone calls from members of the community demanding that we charge the officer immediately and ascribing all kinds of nefarious reasons as to why we haven’t done so,” Freeman said in a statement.

“The truth is, we are following the same procedure we have with the three previous officer-involved shootings.”

It won't be known if officer Mohamed Noor will be charged until the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension completes its investigation.

The 40 year-old was shot dead after calling 911 to report what she thought was a sexual assault in an alley near her home.

It is expected a decision on charges will be made at the end of the year.

"I fully expect a decision in this case before the end of 2017," Freeman said.
