A man accused of indecent assault has had his penis measured for a New Zealand jury, according to reports.

Kapiti councillor David Scott has denied the single charge of indecent assault and is standing trial in the Wellington District Court this week.

The complainant accused Scott of grabbing her hips and rubbing up against her during a morning tea and she earlier told the court said she felt something about four or five inches long.

That prompted defence lawyers - who say it may have been a wallet - to ask Scott's doctor, Bernard Cammack, on Tuesday to measure the accused's penis in a holding cell adjacent to the court, according Stuff and NZME.

Moments later they returned with a measurement for the jury. The figure has been suppressed.
