A man charged over a threatening note that caused a Virgin plane to be evacuated at Albury Airport sat quietly and read a thick novel during the flight from Sydney, witnesses say.
NSW Police say emergency services were called after a note written on a sick bag was discovered in the plane's toilet by another passenger as it approached Albury.
"It was just someone being very silly," a spokeswoman told AAP.
"It wasn't a bomb threat at all. It was not terror-related. It was just something we were concerned about and we wanted to make sure it was OK."
Following his arrest, the 30-year-old man was taken to Albury Police Station.
He was charged with sending a document threatening death or grievous bodily harm and giving false information person/property in danger.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Albury Local Court on 4 July 2017.
