A 55-year-old man has been charged with making threats to kill after an incident which saw Melbourne's Crown Casino evacuated on Wednesday.

Police attended at around 4pm after they received multiple reports of the Malaysian national with a backpack "acting erratically".

A safety search was conducted and the site cordoned off for several hours before being reopened.

"There have been no injuries to the suspect, police or the public as a result of this incident," Acting Commander David Clayton told reporters.

He's been remanded to front Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with make threats to kill, make false report to police and make false statements.
