Man Dies After Tragic Accident At Summernats Car Festival

A Queensland man has died after falling off the back of a ute at Summernats car festival in Canberra.

Luke Newsome, 30, passed away on Friday afternoon in Canberra Hospital.

He fell off the back of a ute on Thursday afternoon at around 4pm.

The ACT collision investigation and reconstruction team are investigating the incident which occurred inside Canberra Exhibition Park.

All attendees have since been warned that they are not to ride on the back of utes.

It is the first death in the 30 year history of Summernats, an event which attracts up to 100,000 patrons annually.
