A New South Wales man has recovered in hospital after an aggressive bull ripped his helmet “clean off” his head at the Wingham Rodeo.

In the close-call video shared to Danny Worth’s Facebook page, the 20-year-old is seen thrown from the bull like a rag doll only seconds into his ride on Saturday night.

With “suspected spinal” injuries from the incident, alongside a gash to his head, Danny was taken to the John Hunter hospital where he explained that he received seven staples.

Organisers from the Wingham Rodeo said it was very “lucky” that Danny was wearing his safety gear during the ride.

“Our young bull rider that was injured on Saturday night, was lucky,” they wrote on Facebook yesterday.

“Wearing the proper headgear saved him from more serious injury. Bull riding is a tough sport, that’s why all safety precautions are taken with riders and bulls.

“The Wingham Show committee has kept in touch with the rider, and pleased to announce that he is recovering well in John Hunter Hospital.

“Good news that the injury is not as serious as first thought, and the medical teams swung into action immediately to get him the best care.”
