A man has blown up online in a viral rant after he was criticised for not moving his guitar for Sydney commuters on a crowded bus.

Comedian Graham Stoney says he was on a North Bondi bus when he copped a tirade of abuse from a woman because he had taken up two seats to himself.

Writing about the ordeal in Facebook group Bondi Local Loop, Mr Stoney said the woman continued to throw profanities at him as she left the bus, shouting: “I hope your bag enjoyed the seat you f***ing p****”.

“I would have preferred you to ask me to politely move over during the trip if you wanted to use the seat beside me that my bag was on,” he wrote.

“That would have given me the opportunity to point out the full-sized acoustic guitar case that you didn't see was occupying all the leg room for that seat.”

However the rant has divided readers, with many more sympathetic to the woman, saying Mr Stoney should have offered up his seat.

Here's Mr Stoney's full post:

"To the lady who abused me on the packed 389 from North Bondi the other morning as she alighted at Bondi Junction by shouting: "I hope your bag enjoyed the seat you f***ing p****”: I would have preferred you ask me politely to please move over during the trip if you wanted to use the seat beside me that my bag was on. That would have given me the opportunity to point out the full sized acoustic guitar case that you didn't see was occupying all the leg room for that seat. That way you wouldn't have had to spend the journey fuming at me for no good reason, and I wouldn't have had to cop your misguided abuse. Please be more assertive in future, not passive and then later aggresive. Thank you."
