UPDATE

After Google Maps had labelled Margaret Court Arena under a new name - Evonne Goolagong Arena - the search engine giant has rectified the error.

It is still unknown who was responsible for the name-change, but Google distanced themselves from it.

A spokesperson for Google said they use of "a wide range of sources, including third-party providers, public sources, and user contributions" in order to label their maps; and these can often lead to inaccuracies.

"We recognise that there may be occasional inaccuracies that could arise from any of those sources," the spokesperson said.

Margaret Court  Arena has been renamed on Google Maps to Evonne Goolagong Arena.

It comes after Margaret Court expressed her views about gay marriage and on transgender children who she claims are being influenced by the devil.

There are some high profile celebrities who are calling for the arena to be officially renamed including Martina Navratilova.

Several current players, including world No.1 Andy Murray and Australian Casey Dellacqua, have criticised Court for her comments.

Google Maps assk for user submission to keep maps current and up to date, however it’s believed all changes are approved by a member of staff at Google HQ.

“We review your edits, so your changes might take some time to be updated on the map.” the Google Map Help page reads.
