After receiving more than 15,000 suggestions the last of the new fleet of ferries will be called Ferry McFerryface.

The Transport Department decided on Ferry McFerryface as Boaty McBoatface was was already taken along with a couple of other names, with the government saying this ferry is for the kids.

The Transport Minister reckons the naming of the latest ferry on Sydney Harbour is "awesome" especially for children.

“We asked Sydney to name their new ferries, and we have listened. Ferry McFerryface will be the harbour’s newest icon, and I hope it brings a smile to the faces of visitors and locals alike,” Mr Constance said.

“The most popular names by far in the Name Your Ferry competition were Victor Chang, Fred Hollows and Catherine Hamlin, which are already ferrying passengers across the harbour.

“This one is for the kids” Mr Constance said.
