One Australian is still unaccounted for in Barcelona, foreign minister Julie Bishop says.

Bishop told media one Australian has not been accounted for and three Australians have required consular assistance following terrorist attacks in Barcelona, Spain. Eight australians have been affected, including four injured.

Two NSW women remain in serious but stable conditions in hospital, while two Victorian men - both of whom were hit by the attacker's car - have been discharged after receiving treatment.

"We are concerned, but we are working closely with authorities to determine the whereabouts of the one Australian unaccounted for," Ms Bishop told reporters in Melbourne on Friday.

At least 16 people have been killed in Barcelona and more than a hundred injured when attacked drove a van through Barcelona's popular tourist area, Las Ramblas.
