Parliament House officials have conceded that they’ve completely lost a 1000-page security manual that went missing last year.

The manual disappeared in November, and officials have no idea who has it despite the involvement of a private investigator.

Labor senator Kimberley Kitching told the Senate estimates hearing today that the manual had been lost by a “private entity”, and Senate president Stephen Parry said there was no indication security had been compromised.

The manual — which is said to deal with future security matters — was apparently lost by a company contracted to make security upgrades at Parliament House.

When asked if the manual had been found, Senator Parry was unequivocal in his response.

“It is definitely lost,” he said.

Parliament House is currently undergoing a $126 million security upgrade, including a 2.6 metre high steel fence across the lawns.
