Passing same-sex marriage could prevent up to 3000 high school suicide attempts every year.

That’s the message from five of Australia’s most respected mental health groups who have joined forces to campaign in favour of same sex marriage.

The groups - ReachOut, Headspace, Orygen, the Black Dog Institute and Sydney University's Brain and Mind Centre - will launch their #mindthefacts information campaign on Thursday.

The groups said they "collectively compelled" to publicly intervene after witnessing misinformation during the past month.

The groups have been in crisis talks over a dramatic increase in demand for mental heath services since the postal survey was passed.

The groups say a "yes" result will "undoubtedly" change thousands of young lives for the better and avert as many as 5000 secondary school suicide attempts each year- based on peer-reviewed research by top American adolocent mental health experts.

The study shows the introduction of same-sex marriage is associated with a 7 per cent reduction in high school suicide attempts.
