One Nation's Pauline Hanson entered question time wearing a burqa today.

The senator appears wearing the burqa during question time this afternoon - removing the garments soon after she sat down.

"If a person who wears a balaclava or a helmet into a bank or any other buildings, they must be removed. Why is it not the same case for someone who is covering up their face and cannot be identified. Will the government make changes to these laws?" she asked.

Attorney General George Brandis received a standing ovation for his response: "No we will not be banning the burqa. I am not going to ignore the stunt of arriving in this chamber... Be careful of the offence you may do to the religious sensibilities of other Australians.

Senator Penny Wong agreed, slamming Hanson's stunt: "It is one thing to wear religious dress, it is another to wear it as a stunt"
