British Police have made the unusual move to name two of the men responsible for the latest terror attacks in London.

Nine's Seb Costello has described the move as 'extraordinary'.

"They have published the photos and the names of 2 of the 3 attackers."

"Usually that is something left for the media but the Metro Police have asked the media to hold off so they can do it themselves."

We have decided not to name or picture the men.

The pair, along with one other man, were shot dead by police after killing 7 people and injuring at least 48 more.

At least one of the two, a 27 year old, was known to police and had even featured in a documentary about Islamist extremists with links to a jailed preacher, but Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner Mark Rowley says "there was no intelligence to suggest that this attack was being planned and the investigation had been prioritised accordingly".

"Work is ongoing to understand more about them, their connections and whether they were assisted or supported by anyone else."

The murderers drove a hired van into pedestrians on London Bridge before stabbing people at the nearby Borough Market.

NHS England said 36 people remained in hospital, with 18 in a critical condition.
