Police investigating the murder of Brighton man Wayne Youngkin have released details of a couple of cars they believe could be linked to the crime.

29-year-old Youngkin was last seen in 1986, but was only reported missing six years later. Youngkin's remains were found in a disused septic tank at a Brighton family where his family once lived in November 2016.

The latest information coming to hand is about two cars last seen in the vicinity of 136 North Road, Brighton, just prior to when Youngkin was last seen, in late '86.

Police are appealing for information from locals who may recall anyone in the Brighton area who owned vehicles (similar to those pictured) in the mid-1980s - a green Chrysler Valiant sedan and a brown XY Ford Fairmont sedan.

Previously, police have released images of some brown striped valour car seat covers that were found alongside Youngkin's remains.

A $250,000 reward is being offered for any information which leads to a conviction over Youngkin's death.
