Adult entertainment site Pornhub has confirmed it will ban sex videos that use artificial intelligence to “insert” the faces of celebrities into NSFW movies.

A spokesperson for the website told Motherboard there was a blanket ban on featuring the “nonconsensual” clips on the platform.

“We do not tolerate any nonconsensual content on the site and we remove all said content as soon as we are made aware of it,” they said in an email.

“Nonconsensual content directly violates our TOS [terms of service] and consists of content such as revenge porn, deepfakes or anything published without a person’s consent or permission.”

Using similar special effects that inserted the late Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia into 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story', the technology featuring in the banned videos is capable of superimposing a face onto the body of an actor.

The culture of “deepfakes” is anticipated to be difficult to stamp out completely, given 75 million people log on to Pornhub every single day.
