Customers who signed up for Optus' World Cup coverage will receive refunds in the next fortnight as the fallout from the streaming dramas continues.

It was announced yesterday that SBS would broadcast the remainder of the World Cup group matches, following an admission that the telco had failed to deliver a streaming service to meet demand.

The Optus service for the World Cup cost $15 for the month of June, and promised extensive FIFA World Cup coverage.

However, technical issues saw 'playback error' messages, choppy coverage and drop outs.

"Optus customers who have already purchased the Optus Sport app will be refunded via the payment mode that the purchase was made," an Optus spokesperson said.

"We anticipate refunds will be processed within the next two weeks. Refunds will be processed automatically and customers do not need to contact us."
