Reports $810 Million Worth Of Drugs Seized As Sydney Raids Help Bring Down Two Crime Syndicates

Following the raids in Sydney this morning, it has been reported by Nine News that nine men and a woman have been arrested.

According to the Australian Federal Police, this raid has resulted in the destruction of two international crime syndicates. Five men have also been arrested in the United Arab Emirates through a simultaneous anti-narcotics investigation.

The Netherlands have also followed up on this operation, with two men arrested by Dutch authorities. Drugs with an Australian street value upwards of $810 million were intercepted by authorities before they could make their way to Australia.

This included 1.8 tonnes of MDMA, 15 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 136 kilograms of cocaine.

According to Australian Federal Police Assistant Commissioner Neil Gaughan, the investigation had been a 12-month project.

"The people we allege are part of this syndicate are Middle Eastern organised crime figures that are well-known to law enforcement, and for decades this group has flaunted their wealth and activities, telling the community they were untouchable," Assistant Commissioner Gaughan said.

"Today, it should be obvious that they are not."
