A block of flats in Sydney's inner-west is at threat of collapsing with 100 people being told to evacuate.

NSW SES and Fire & Rescue crews are at the scene in Marrickville after residents in the Ewart Street block reported heavy rain pouring into a water hole behind the building and possibly threatening the foundations.

"Marrickville volunteers are en-route to a building threatening to collapse. 100 people are inside," the SES tweeted.

NSW Fire & Rescue said additional crews were on their way to investigate the block.

"Blding evac'd. Urban search & rescue unit on way," it tweeted.

The suburb of Marrickville bore the brunt of Tuesday's storm, which lashed the city with 48mm of rain between 10am and 11am.
