UPDATE:

Marilou Danley, the reported Australian girlfriend of Las Vegas mass-shooter Stephen Paddock, remains a "person of interest" as authorities investigate the massacre that killed at least 58 people and injured more than 500 others.

CNN is reporting Danley, 62, was in the Philippines when the shooting happened.

Multiple news outlets in Australia have reported Danley had been a resident of the Gold Coast until she moved to the United States about 20 years ago.

But the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade would not comment on the reports.

US authorities have declined to confirm her location to AAP other than to say she was "not in the US".

"We still consider her a person of interest," Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told reporters on Monday.

"We have been in contact with her and we plan to engage her upon her return to the country."

The companion of a Las Vegas man who shot and killed more than 50 people in Las Vegas today, is believed to an Australian.

At least 50 people have been killed and more than 200 injured by gunman Stephen Paddock who fired from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, picking off revellers before he was shot dead by police.

Now The Australian is reporting Marilou Danley, a person of interest who has now been located, is an Australian citizen.

A police spokesperson has since said they have found her:

"We are confident but not 100 per cent sure that we have located the female person of interest. I want the people to feel confident and calm that we have accomplished a lot in a short period of time."

The Australian claims she was the girlfriend of the dead shooter Stephen Paddock and is understood to have shared a house in Las Vegas with Mr Paddock. The publication claims she holds an Australian passport and is possibly of Indonesian decent.

Friends of Danley, told The Courier Mail she was a former Gold Coast resident who was once married to an Australian man.  She reportedly moved to the US about 20 years ago.
