Proving its recipe is the cream of the crop, the Country Women's Association of NSW has sold its 50,000th scone during its 70th year at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

The group surpassed its previous scone record by more than 900 floury treats on Tuesday afternoon, with plans to sell hundreds more - at $8.50 for two scones, jam and cream, and tea - by show's end on Wednesday.

CWA of NSW chief executive Danica Leys told AAP about 450 volunteers helped to dish out the Devonshire Tea using a secret recipe, two-and-a-half tonnes of flour and 35,000 individual portions of strawberry jam.
