A couple from Sydney’s west has been admitted to hospital with a rare flesh-eating bacteria.

The man and woman are in a stable condition and are undergoing treatment at Blacktown hospital.

"A 57-year-old male and 46-year-old female are in Blacktown Hospital with a very rare condition known as necrotising fasciitis, which was acquired in Polynesia," said a Blacktown hospital spokesperson.   

"There is no risk to public health and the community should not be alarmed.

"Both patients are in a very stable condition. The cases are unrelated."
