Commonwealth Games officials are expected to slap a group of Indian athletes with sanctions after a bunch of discarded syringes were found in the Athletes' Village.

It is believed a cleaner found the needles in a water bottle over the weekend, close to the Indian team's accommodation.

Although the group have been cleared of doping, the syringes still breach the village's strict 'no needles' policy and the unnamed squad will now have to face the Games Federation's medical commission as part of their investigation.

Testing on the syringes reportedly revealed there was no illicit substances, but officials are yet to reveal exactly what substance they contained.

The federation court will meet at 10am on Tuesday to discuss possible sanctions.
