Residents have been forced to evacuate after Hawaii's Kilauea volcano has erupted, pouring hot red lava onto the street.
Hawaii County spokeswoman Janet Snyder says red lava emerged on Thursday on Mohala Street in the Leilani Estates subdivision. The county is ordering evacuations for homes in the affected areas.
The eruption comes after residents experiences days of earthquakes - with the latest being a 5.0 magnitude quake reported by the US Geological Society on Thursday.
Earlier in the week, the crater floor of the Puu Oo vent collapsed. That caused magma to push more than 16km downward toward the populated southeast coastline of the island.
No travel alerts have been issued for visitors to Hawaii, although all people are urged to avoid the areas affected by the volcano.
