The man who allegedly headbutted former PM Tony Abbott is now facing 10 years behind bars after charges regarding the incident were upgraded.

Astro Labe, 38, was initially charged with one count of common assault after an alleged incident in Hobart on September 21.

The charge has now been upgraded to causing harm to a Commonwealth public official, which carries a 10-year jail term.

Mr Labe appeared in Hobart Magistrates Court today. He did not enter a plea and his bail was continued.
