Following the decision to run a postal vote on same-sex marriage, there has been a push to sign up the large number of young people who are yet to register to vote.

According to a report by news.com.au, there are approximately 300,000 people between the ages of 18 and 24 that have not registered on the electoral rollsince becoming of voting age.

It is estimated by the Australian Electoral Commission that over 810,000 people are absent from the rolls, with politicians predicting that the registration of these 'missing' people significant enough to have a bearing on the outcome of future elections.
