Sounds like some interesting times in the Abbott household.

The daughter of former Prime Minister Tony Abbott has publicly thrown her support behind the YES vote for marriage equality, backing her aunt Sydney councillor Christine Forster, who is in a same sex relationship.

Her dad has campaigned heavily against same-sex marriage, but Frances Abbott says she was raised to stand up for what she believes in.

"I think it's well know that within my family we have people that sit on the other side of the fence," she says in the clip that has been released by Australian Marriage Equality.

"My mother and my father raised me to stand up for what I believe in."

In the clip she talks about her aunt Christine and how she hopes to be part of her same-sex wedding one day.

"I look at aunty Chris and I don't think she planned to fall in love with Virginia," she said.

"It never really changed anything, she was still aunty Chris.

"She's still going to be at Christmas, she's still going to be at the family BBQs, her children are still going to be my cousins."
