Up to a million cars are expected to be added to a recall of three million Australian vehicles, following suggestions from the ACCC.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has made a formal recommendation to the Federal Government to issue a compulsory recall for vehicles with Takara airbags installed.

Between 800,000 and one million cars are expected to be effected by the recall – which includes brands like Audi and Volkswagen as well as certain European sourced models from Ford and Holden.

There have been reports of the airbags rupturing when deployed in a crash, it’s estimate this has lead to up to 23 deaths overseas and hundreds of injuries.
