What To Do If You're Flying To Bali

UPDATE 10:01AM: 

Jetstar, Qantas and Air Asia have cancelled flights to and from Bali due to the volcanic ash cloud from Mount Agung.

Virgin says "some" flights have been cancelled and customers should expect long delays. 

EARLIER: Australians flying to Bali have been warned to expect possible delays as airlines keep a close watch on volatile volcano Mount Agung. 

Yesterday 5,000 people were affected when flights to and from the main airport at Denpasar were cancelled due to a second eruption which sent plumes of volcanic ash and steam kilometres into the air. 

Jetstar, Virgin, Qantas and Air Asia all chose to suspend flights to Indonesia. 

"The safety of our guests and crew is our highest priority and our team of meteorologists continue to monitor the situation in consultation with the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre," Virgin said in a statement posted on their website.

"Guests with changes to their flight schedule will be contacted directly by SMS and email." 

Virgin has already delayed a flight due to depart Sydney at 11:20am, however the other major airlines are hopeful of a smoother run today.

They all continue to monitor the conditions.

Customers who do not want to travel can also request a voucher to the credit of their booking.

• Call airline and confirm the status of their flight 
• Monitor news outlets or social media information feeds closely for any news of another eruption
• Sign up for phone or email notifications about their or their family's flight on the airline's website
• Prepare a contingency plan in case of cancellation or delays
